Surviving a Hangover

Posted on May 14, 2014 by Lazyjack Press

Winter is finally gone and it seems everyone is eager to go out and make up for those harsh winter months that forced everyone to stay bundled up inside. Now that spring is here, it means more drinking and unfortunately, more hangovers.
My first week of college I had a killer hangover. My father offered me some simple advice: "Stay away from the dark stuff; it'll give you the worst hangover." It seemed straight-forward at the time but now, drinks have gotten more complicated. It's not as easy as "liquor before beer you're in the clear" or however that saying goes. Now, crafted cocktails have many different liquors in them. I had one drink at Little Branch that had about five different liquors in it (including absinthe AND port!). I definitely walked into that hangover the next morning!
So, when you venture out to rooftop bars, bbqs, and happy hours this spring, keep these simple rules in mind to lower your chances of a hangover, otherwise, GQ put together a helpful list to survive the hangover. Happy spring!
Cheers!

Cocktail Recipe du Jour: The Mint Julep

Posted on May 01, 2014 by Lazyjack Press

In preparation for the Kentucky Derby this Saturday, we thought it was only fitting to include a recipe for the Mint Julep in this week's blog. Mint Juleps have been the traditional drink of choice at the Derby since 1938 and each year, Churchill Downs is said to serve over 120,000 of them! Thankfully, each cocktail takes about three minutes to make so they're perfect if you're hosting a Derby-themed party! So wherever your plans take you this coming Saturday, we hope it'll be a celebration to remember (or not!).

Cheers!

What You'll Need: (Serves One)

- 4-5 leaves from mint sprigs

- 2 sugar cubes or 1/2 ounce of simple syrup

- 2.5-3 oz of Bourbon

- Mint sprig for garnish

What To Do:

1) Place the mint and cubes/simple syrup in your cup and muddle well.

2) Add the bourbon

3) Fill the cup with crushed ice (tip: if you don't have an ice machine, cover your ice with a towel and use your muddler to whack the ice). Bonus points for using a traditional julep cup!

4) Stir well

5) Garnish with a mint sprig
